Volunteer to Youth Enrolment Manager

March 17, 2017

Anthony Olanipekun joined the Youth at Risk staff team in December 2016 after volunteering on our Hackney Choices programme in 2015/2016.

“I came across YaR on twitter in 2015, the opportunity to be a life coach had randomly come up and I was really interested in seeing what it was about. I had a conversation with Ashley at the time and was immediately hooked so I enrolled onto the Hackney choices programme as a volunteer life coach.

During the training weekend I experienced a range of emotions and had been able to reflect on some of my life decisions, I began really asking myself what I want and what I’m committed to. I completed the programme and continued to keep in touch with YaR while working elsewhere, when the opportunity to be Youth Enrolment manager was presented to me I felt like things had aligned and I was stepping into an organisation who genuinely care about my development and goals.

My first few months of work consisted of workshops for staff at Hydebank Wood in Belfast, mentoring programmes for students in London and Northamptonshire, working with young people on a residential in Belgium all whilst being able to work on myself in the process.

Working with YaR has allowed me to see that there’s so much more for me to learn and I’m in the right place for that.”
